Coming Soon To Number 57

Hello! It’s been a little while since we last stopped by so we thought it about time for a little catch up. Did you have a lovely summer? We’ve been keeping ourselves busy working on new designs and sourcing new products (coming very soon!) and we’ve moved! Our little old house was no longer big enough for us and all of our stock. If you want to see the new place we call home, and the big renovation project that’s getting underway you can follow it all on our blog WholeLottaLovely. So with all of that going on before we knew it summer was over and Autumn is here. The arrival of autumn means it’s time to photograph all of the new bits and pieces we’ve been working on lately so last week I teamed up with photographer Max Attenborough. We’ll be introducing the new lines over the next couple of weeks but here’s a sneaky peep of what’s to come!

NEW AT NUMBER 57: Vintage Bus Stop Posters

It’s all go here at Number 57 at the moment but at the weekend we found a little time to update the site with some of the new treasures we’ve sourced recently.

First up these vintage bus stop posters. Used for temporary or “Dolly” bus stops (love that name!)  from the 1960′s through to the early 80′s we just love the bold graphic style of these paper signs and think they’d look rather nice hung as a set or individually. How very British! We’ve only popped a couple of the designs up at the moment but we have more so do email us if you’re interested.

New At Number 57: Vintage Lab-Ware

School is almost out for the summer and we’ve been adding some new vintage stock to our shelves here at Number 57. Now, Simon and I have differing views on our schools days…I loved them and Simon didn’t! What we do agree on though is that you can beat a bit of old school nostalgia. So to join our many vintage school charts & posters  (here & here & here!) we’ve now added a collection of vintage lab-ware to our Lost & Found section.  Conical beakers, bottles & tubes make for a perfect vase we think…

Lovely Jubilee!

It’s no secret that the folks here at Number 57 are really rather partial to a bit of Patriotism so it was no surprise when they announced plans for the Jubilee weekend. On Sunday a street party at “the grandparents” where I was reliably informed there would be a good mix of “old folk” and small children {plenty of “missed mouth” opportunities for a clever hound like me!}  and on Monday a village Dog Show! So with even more spring in my step than usual off I headed for some Jubilee fun…

With my BFF Kevin at my side we could have wiped the floor with the competition but decided to allow the other dogs a look in. Kevin won a 1st Place in the “Best 6 legs” and 2nd in “Dog that most looks like owner”  while I scooped a 3rd in “Best Fancy Dress”. I really do think the folks could have put a little more thought into my outfit, rather than a hastily pulled together combination of a left over party hat and my winter jumper. Still I pulled it off and won the judges attentions with my best attempt of removing my outfit while parading around the ring “Best Undressed” So with almost as many appearances as her majesty this weekend this little hound is now rather exhausted so if you will please excuse me my bed awaits.

The Story Of Number 57

I can’t believe we’ve finally launched. It seems like this little website has been in the making for years…actually it has! Thanks for those of you who have been patiently waiting, sending comments of support when it felt like it might never happen. When Simon and I decided we’d like to work together to create a little emporium of loveliness I had no idea how much time it takes to set something like this up. To be honest it probably shouldn’t have taken us as long as it has, but with the day jobs having to take priority, moving to Australia, then moving home again, getting married and a few technical glitches along the way… it has!

Setting up an online shop is something Simon and I have talked about for years but it wasn’t until we headed for Sydney and Simon took a bit of time out from full time design work that he had the time to dedicate to turning our ideas into reality. We knew the exact direction and feel we wanted the store to take but we had no idea what we’d call ourselves. On day while sitting on our sunny Sydney balcony {possibly feeling a little homesick} we stumbled across the idea of The Shop At Number 57. Number 57 being our UK home together, the place where the idea began some years before. The concept was simple, we wouldn’t sell anything we didn’t love enough to put in our own home, Number 57.

So here’s to Number 57. We hope you like what you find. We’re always working on new designs and hunting out pre-loved treasures so please do pop back from time to time and see what’s new in store. We’ll keep you up to date with all our latest news, products and inspirations right here.
